BERHAMPUR: Inmates of RK Hostel of Khallikote Autonomous College in the city on Thursday took out a rally to persuade the youth to vote during the coming elections without fail.
Before taking out the rally they also got together on the hostel campus to take a pledge that each of them would surely vote. “We had planned up this rally few weeks before but we waited for the completion of our annual examination”, said cultural secretary of the hostel, Ruparanjan Mishra.
The examinations of the Khallikote Autonomous College ended on Tuesday.
Rally
The rally to promote voting among the youth moved around the city. They also gave slogans asking voters to choose candidates without getting biased by false promises and factional politics. At several places the students interacted with youth of their age to discuss the common excuses that people give for not voting, said Sangram Keshari Patnaik, a hostel border. All these students are not voters of Berhampur. On Friday most of them would return back to their homes in different parts of south Orissa.
“We have decided to list down the excuses for not voting and try to eradicate them through argument while discussing with people not interested to vote in our family and neighbours at our home town,” said Mr Patnaik.
Mr Mishra said after returning to his home at Boudh he would first meet all his childhood friends to persuade them to leave excuses and vote.
The boarders of this large hostel would return to hostel on April 10 as their results were to be out on that day. But they vowed to return to their homes again after seeing the results, to vote.
