TC-Cong tie-up desperate attempt to survive: Biman

Kolkata: The poll alliance between the Trinamool Congress and Congress in West Bengal was a desperate attempt by the parties to survive, Left Front chairman Biman Bose on Sunday said.

Saying the alliance would meet the same fate as the grand alliance of opposition parties earlier, Mr. Bose asserted there was no alternative to Left Front in the state.

“Such a desperate attempt for survival born out of frustration will just not succeed,” Mr. Bose told reporters after attending an LF meeting.

He alleged a conspiracy was being hatched by opposition political parties to cause a rift among the front partners before the election.

He admitted the LF had suffered to a some extent in the last panchayat election because of some differences among its partners. “That chapter is over. We have sorted out our differences and consolidated the Left unity as before.”

The LF would soon come out with an appeal to people as part of campaign to defeat its rival political parties in all 42 seats, Bose said. It would be finalised within a few days after any addition and alteration by partners, he added.

He also asked the front partners to remain alert against ‘a conspiracy by opposition parties’ and not to get provoked. — PTI
