Madan Lal joins Congress, gets ticket

NEW DELHI: Former cricketer Madan Lal joined the Congress on Saturday and would be the party’s candidate from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi said.

Mr. Lal is being fielded against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister P. K. Dhumal’s son, Anurag Thakur of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mr. Dwivedi said Mr. Lal was consistent in cricket and consistency was needed in politics too. Congress general secretary in-charge of Himachal Pradesh, Mohsina Kidwai, pointed out that the cricketer was a native of Hamirpur.
