Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday filed her nomination papers from West Bengal’s Kolkata Dakshin constituency for the Lok Sabha elections.
Accompanied by hundreds of party supporters, Ms. Banerjee arrived at the office of the District Returning Officer around 2.35 p.m.
Dressed in a white cotton sari with green border, she stormed into the room of the Returning Officer along with five of her associates — alleging that she was stopped by the security personnel at the entrance. She attributed it to “the State government’s conspiracy against her so that she cannot file her nomination.”
As the Returning Officer pointed to her that only four associates of a candidate are allowed, Ms. Banerjee had another outburst of temper but quickly managed the situation and sent one of her associates out of the room.
In the affidavit furnished along with nomination papers, Ms. Banerjee has declared that she did not own a car, house or agricultural land. It says that she has Rs.28,322 cash in hand and around Rs.31.5 lakh as bank deposit, NSS and NSC postal savings. In addition, she owns 9.750 gm of gold jewellery valued at Rs.13,531.
